CUMBERLAND, Md. — Hagerstown’s Doug Oates pulled away from the field to win the first Mountain Maryland Marathon in a time of 2:44:04 on Sunday.Oates, 30, defeated Paul Walters of Annapolis, Md., by more than 14 minutes to win the $1,000 first prize.
For Hagerstown resident Doug Oates, the marathon festival, presented by Life Fitness Management, was a moment to bask in the limelight of more than a year of high-level training. His winning performance — and a personal best time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 4 seconds — earned him the $1,000 cash prize and the awe and respect of his wife, Laura, who had surprised him in coming to the Queen City to watch him complete his trek through downtown Cumberland and conquer the 10.5-mile incline along the Great Allegheny Passage.
Adam also got in on the running excitement and ran his first race. He ran the kids 400 meter race which is equivalent to 1 lap around a track. He ran the whole way and loved it. Here is a picture of a future marathon champ running his first race:

Holy crap! It would take me a month to run 26 miles...seriously. Way to go, Doug!
Wow!! Way to go Doug!! That is amazing...he should be in the Olympics :).
That's so awesome!! Congrats Doug! I can hardly run 1 mile! Ha-ha...
Wow!! That is amazing!!!
Would he consider wearing a wig and flying out to California to run the Rock N' Roll marathon for me at the end of the month?? I'm hoping to finish it before they close the course. I have seven hours and I'm NERVOUS that I won't be able to pull it off.
Heck, Doug could run it twice in the amount of time I'm hoping to do it ONCE!!!
